WHY: America's returning military heroes were never properly thanked by their country for their service and sacrifices in Vietnam, leaving a national wound that will not heal until this long-overdue expression of gratitude is made.
HOW: Millions of Americans will receive official Thank You cards to sign and return; names are transferred onto one very large card and delivered at a Presentation Ceremony by a Civilian Delegation to a Vietnam-era U.S. Veterans Delegation. The large card will go on official display in the new Vietnam Education Center at the Wall, a permanent part of American history.
WHEN: Signatures will be gathered between now and the Presentation Ceremony on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2015.
WHERE: The Card will get a cross-country escort to our nation’s capital by the Rolling Thunder®, Inc. "Flame of Freedom." The Presentation Ceremony, featuring the large Thank You card as well as all individual signed small cards, will take place at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.
WHO: This campaign is a project of Veterans in Defense of Liberty (VIDOL). Connie Stevens, actress and USO entertainer during the Vietnam War, and Larry Gatlin of The Gatlin Brothers serve as Honorary Chairmen of the campaign.
